View Research Overview & References
BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157), also referred to in the scientific literature as PL 14736, is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) originally derived from a protein found in human gastric juice. It has been studied in laboratory research for its interaction with cell signaling pathways related to tissue-level cell behavior.1
Gastric and Cellular Protection Research
Laboratory research has examined BPC-157’s effects on gastric mucosal cell models, including studies on cell viability and inflammatory marker levels in cultured human gastric cells exposed to NSAID compounds known to cause cellular damage.2
Animal Model Tissue Research
Animal studies have examined BPC-157’s effects on tissue damage markers in models of induced intestinal inflammation and ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats.3 Separate animal model research has examined BPC-157’s effects on ligament tissue following surgically induced medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in rats, including markers of tissue strength, thickness, and structural organization, along with associated stem cell proliferation and differentiation markers.4
Vascular and Cell Signaling Research
Laboratory research has examined BPC-157’s effects on new blood vessel formation and granulation tissue markers in animal models.5
