GHRP-6 (growth hormone-releasing peptide 6) is a synthetic compound composed of six amino acids, studied in vitro and in vivo (animal) laboratory research. It has been studied for its ability to elicit the release of growth hormone (GH), though it has no structural similarity to endogenous growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH).1 GHRP-6 is used only in controlled laboratory settings and is not approved for human or veterinary applications.
Receptor Antagonist Research
There are two primary analogs studied in this research area: GHRP-6 peptide and [D-Lys-3]-GHRP-6. [D-Lys-3]-GHRP-6 is studied as an antagonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R), or ghrelin receptor.2 This peptide has been used in laboratory studies examining the general role of ghrelin signaling in metabolic processes, such as insulin release and GLP-1 regulation from intestinal cells in animal models.3 Research using this antagonist has also examined GHS-R receptor localization, including in the brain’s ventral tegmental area, and its relevance to DNA synthesis markers in gastric cells in animal models of postnatal stomach development.2,4
Receptor Agonist Research
GHRP-6 peptide is studied as an agonist of the GHS-R in a dose-dependent manner.5 Laboratory research has examined its effects on tissue growth and regeneration markers. Laboratory models demonstrated increased cell migration markers, without a corresponding increase in proliferation, in rat intestine cell models treated with GHRP-6.6
Animal Model Tissue Injury Research
In animal models of ischemia-reperfusion injury, GHRP-6 administration was associated with changes in tissue injury markers.6 Separately, GHRP-6 in combination with recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) has been studied in animal models examining markers of neuronal signaling following induced cerebral ischemia.7
Important Notice
GHRP-6 and [D-Lys-3]-GHRP-6 peptides are intended strictly for in vitro and in vivo (animal) research and are not approved for human or veterinary use. All research must adhere to controlled laboratory protocols, and these findings do not establish safety, efficacy, or suitability for any human or animal application.
Product Information
GHRP-6 is supplied as a research reagent for laboratory use only, available in bulk quantity.
