GHRP-2, or growth hormone-releasing peptide 2, is a synthetic peptide belonging to a class of compounds known as growth hormone secretagogues, studied in vitro and in vivo (animal) laboratory research for its effects on growth hormone release from the pituitary gland.

Animal Growth Performance Research

Research in swine examined GHRP-2’s effects on growth hormone release, observing dose-dependent stimulation with peak concentrations and growth hormone area-under-curve values higher than saline controls. Chronic administration was associated with sustained growth hormone release, with a partial attenuation of the response observed between days 1 and 10 of treatment in this animal model. Researchers also observed changes in average daily weight gain and feed efficiency markers, without significant changes in daily feed intake.1

Animal Model Joint Inflammation Research

A separate study examined GHRP-2 in a rat model of induced joint inflammation. Researchers observed changes in serum ghrelin and leptin levels associated with the induced inflammatory state, and administration of GHRP-2 was associated with changes in leptin concentration and joint-related markers, including paw volume, in this animal model. Serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), an inflammatory marker, were also examined, and in vitro experiments examined GHRP-2 and ghrelin’s effects on IL-6 release from immune cells.2

Cardiac Tissue Research

In a study using isolated rat hearts subjected to induced ischemia followed by reperfusion, researchers examined cardiac function markers, including left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) and left ventricular developed pressure (LVDP). GHRP-2 administration before and during reperfusion was associated with changes in these pressure markers and contractility parameters at a dose of 10 nmol/L, independent of growth hormone secretion and without effect on heart rate, in this isolated tissue model.3

Important Notice

GHRP-2 is intended strictly for in vitro and in vivo (animal) laboratory research and is not approved for human or veterinary use. Any application outside of controlled research environments is strictly prohibited. These findings do not establish safety, efficacy, or suitability for any human or animal application, and this product has not been evaluated by the FDA or any regulatory agency.
